From the Moris Women's Center Team to You
We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to all our supporters and donors. Your continuous support and commitment has allowed us to keep creating lasting, positive change in the lives of everyone who walks through our doors.
As the year comes to a close, we want to remember and honor our dear friend, the late Floyd Jones. Like all of you, Floyd believed in the work of the Center and was extremely generous to endow the Leadership Academy as well as the Returning/Non-traditional Student program. In doing so, Floyd actualized his dream of creating transformational leaders committed to building a more equitable world. Thank you Floyd!
We recognize that our work is only possible because of the Women's Center's village. This village is made up of people like Floyd, students, staff, faculty, volunteers, donors, tutors, mentors, and supporters like you.
We value each and everyone of you for being a part of our village!
With gratitude,
Sutapa Basu and the WC Team
The following are three inspirational testaments to the impact that your support has had this past year:
Please meet Making Connections seniors: Samrawit, Heran, and Hiyab, all three of whom will be first generation college students.
Samrawit dreams of going to the UW, Seattle University or Tuskegee University to study nursing and psychology.
Heran dreams of attending UW, Menlo College, or Washington State University to study business administration and marketing. She wants to be able to confidently run her own business.
Hiyab dreams of going to UW, George Washington University, or Seattle University to study neuroscience, biology, and/or criminology.
These three budding scholars just submitted their university and college admissions applications with the help of the Making Connections program. Samrawit, Heran, and Hiyab all agreed that they felt anxious and nervous preparing their application materials earlier this Fall. However, with the support they received from Making Connections, such as vital tutoring, writing feedback, mentorship, and workshops they were empowered and felt prepared for the admissions process and scholarship interviews.
As Hiyab said:
“MC has helped us prepare for more than just college, but also for future jobs.”
Heran also added:
“It was really meaningful to feel welcome, like I could come in at any time and get help on anything. Making Connections helped me feel good about my essays and also the bigger things in life.”
Samrawit chimed in:
“Making Connections has supported us educationally and personally, allowing us to connect with people who have similar interests and goals which has enriched our learning experience.”
Congratulations to Heran, Samrawit, Hiyab, and all of the Making Connections Seniors on submitting their college applications. A huge thank you to our MC village as your support was instrumental in setting these future changemakers up for success!
